- The German Aerospace Center (DLR) needs a test center to test large aviation structures, small aircraft, helicopters and air taxis and to support their approval. The focus is on crash and impact tests Full scale. In order to make aviation even more efficient, economical and sustainable, the aviation industry and research are developing new technologies and design approaches for the aircraft of tomorrow. These have to be partly completely new energy storage, such as B. hydrogen tanks or batteries continue to meet the highest requirements for passive safety for passengers. CITE should therefore be able to test large structures, as well as small aircraft, helicopters and air taxis and thus support them in their approval. To this end, DLR-CITE will carry out full-scale crash and impact tests for the first time. In the crash area, the focus is on testing under realistic impact conditions from a height of more than 15 meters in impact tests for example, the impact of artificial birds and drones on critical areas. The test conditions inside the test halls will be highly reproducible and therefore meet the highest demands in terms of test and measurement requirements. To A new crash test facility (RPGen-Real Pulse Generator) is to be developed and built to carry out crash tests with aircraft such as helicopters, eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing) or aircraft fuselage sections.
