• Description:
• The Meppen municipal utilities operate the Meppen sewage treatment plant (KA) with a capacity of 40,000 population equivalents (EGW). Until 1990, the sewage treatment plant was operated using a so-called trickling filter process. From 1990 the sewage treatment plant was renovated and increased Cleaning requirements (nutrient elimination) adjusted. A mechanical and a biological purification stage are available for wastewater treatment. In the mechanical cleaning stage, solids are removed from the wastewater using rakes and sand traps secluded. Biological cleaning takes place using the activation process. The precipitant iron(III) chloride sulfate is added for further phosphate elimination. The treated wastewater flows via the receiving water, the Nordradde, into the Ems. The one at the Sewage sludge resulting from wastewater treatment will be aerobically stabilized in the activation plant and applied to the sewage sludge conversion beds approximately four kilometers away until 2024.
