- The sea shipping contributes to greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. Both on international - and at European and regional level, reduction measures are discussed and regulations are adopted.
The International Sea shipping organization (IMO) is the responsible UN organization, which deals with these questions as part of the Environment Committee (Marine Environment Protection Committee; MEPC) and its sub-Committee PPR (Pollution Prevention and Response). Helcom is a merger of the Baltic Sea states that want to advance the protection of the sea environment, the shipping issues are treated in the "Helcom Maritime" committee.
BMUV/UBA, among other things, work on the topics of Black Carbon (BC) Emission reduction and scrubber abnormal instructions in the above. Groups with and will need external professional support in the coming years in order to be able to actively contribute contributions to the committees.
