Description:
Despite the negative development of the inventory, herring for fishing in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MV) is still an important fish species. So far, the responsibility of management recommendations and implementations is mainly at the federal and EU levels. To better consider regional special features The State Research Institute for Agriculture and Fishing MV (LFA MV) has been able to conduct a project for regionalized herring management in MV since September 2024. In four sub -projects, biological basics are researched on spawning areas and spawn types. In a fifth sub -project the socio-economic dimension of herring fishing is to be examined. The socio-economic component in herring management is of particular importance, since many local actors from e.g. fishing, nature conservation, tourism and administration in the use of the coastal waters have. Management without their integration poses potential for conflict and acceptance problems. An early stakeholder dialogue can be developed ecologically sustainable and economically reasonable management recommendations that ensure both herring stocks and the economic Protect the basis of the region.
