The two local energy suppliers based on fossil fuels (gasand coal). Stadtwerke Goerlitz (SWG) operates four district heating networks with an annual heat output of approx. 93.2
GWh for 400 heat transfer stations, which leads to around 28,900 tons of co2 emissions per year. SEC ZGORZELEC Spolka Z Ograniczona Odpowiedziedzialnoscia (SECZ) operatesOn the Polish side, a district heating network with an annual heat output of approx. 62.2 GWh for 250 heat transfer stations, which leads to about 19,100 CO2 emissions per year.
The "United Heat" project aims to decarbonize the heat supply in both
neighboring cities by the heat generationconverted to renewable energy sources and connected to all district heating supply areas by 2028 and merged by a cross -border connection.
The conversion of the heat supply of the cities of Goerlitz and Zgorzelec to renewable energies and the merging of both networksA cross-border heat supply aims at CO2 emission savings
of up to 48,000 tons per year and will be a lighthouse project for the
