Description:
The north section of the Gaeubahn expansion is divided into three main areas:
- Pfaffensteig tunnel (mining)
- Moenchsbrunnen junction
- Existing route 4860
Pfaffensteig tunnel:
The Pfaffensteig tunnel (new route 4706) is an approx. 11 km long two-tube, each atracked, railway tunnel. The two tunnel tubes are connected to each other via connecting structures that are less than 500 m apart. In the east, the Pfaffensteig tunnel connects to the Stuttgart airport long-distance train station and the airport tunnel of the PFA 1.3a (Stut projecttgart 21) on. For this purpose, two widening and branching structures are currently being built in the east airport tunnel as part of the construction work on the Stuttgart 21 project. The tunnel is driven conventionally by mining methods starting from the rescue tunnel on the Fildern on the one hand in the direction of dhe branch structures described above in the airport tunnel east and on the other hand in the direction of the launch shaft. The tunnel is driven by mining and mechanical means - starting from the starting shaft on the Fildern - in the direction of Boeblinger/Sindelfinger Forst. For this, the use of two tunnel tunneling machines provided. In the area of the Boeblinger/Sindelfingen forest, the
Pfaffensteig tunnel emerges towards the surface. There, the two mined tunnel tubes each connect to a section of tunnel using the cut-and-cover method.
