The municipality of Kandel consists of the municipalities of Erlenbach, Freckenfeld, Kandel, Minfeld, Steinweiler, Vollmersweiler and Winden. The municipality operates the Verbandsgemeindewerke Kandel, which is responsible, among other things, for the operation and maintenance of the water supply. The Kandel, Steinweiler and Winden waterworks supply the citizens of the municipality. The supply network consists of 3 supply zones and has a line length of approx. 140 km.
The building with 2 water chambers dates from 1959. 2 additional water chambers were built in the 1974s. The single-line processing plant is almost 40 years old. The water law for the wells from 2017 limits the withdrawal volume to 200 m³/h or 4,800 m³/d. The water requirement is 235,000 m2/a. The 4 water chambers currently have a volume of 450 m³.
